This course is designed for individuals without prior experience in managing projects who are interested in exploring project management or transitioning into a project management role. Participants will learn practical project management techniques that can be applied to projects, including concepts, principles, and best practices. The course will cover essential elements such as roles, responsibilities, processes, and documents to help participants manage software projects effectively and increase organizational effectiveness and business value. Participants will also have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with industry-standard project management software tools. The course provides a solid foundation for those who wish to pursue professional project management credentials in the future, after gaining sufficient project management experience.
List out the stages of project management.
Implement a project using Kanban in project management software.
Map out task dependencies using Gantt Chart in project management software.
Recommend suitable buffer time to account for risks identified that may cause the project from being delivered on time, on budget and within the scope planned.
Module 1: Introduction to Project Management
The training session will begin with an introduction to project management and an overview of the Project Management Lifecycle. Participants will also be introduced to the various different project management methodologies such as waterfall, lean, Kanban and agile as well as the tools which support these project management methodologies.
Module 2: Project Planning
In this module, participants will analyze the project requirements in depth to create a Work Breakdown Structure. Using the Work Breakdown Structure, they will learn how to estimate the task duration, start time and end time and use it to create a project schedule and plot a Gantt chart. Finally, they will learn about the different type of dependencies between tasks and learn how to map them onto a Gantt chart in the project management software.
Module 3: Project Execution using Scrumban Methodology
Participants will learn how to utilize the scrum framework to ensure features are delivered on a consistent basis. They will learn about the purpose and usage of the Product Backlog, Sprint Backlog as well as the roles of the Product Owner, Scrum Master, and Scrum Development Team in Sprint Planning Meeting. They will also learn how to handle changes to a project scope.
Module 4: Project Risk Management
Participants will be exposed to multiple factors which could affect the delivery of a successful project. Participants will then learn how to map the risks identified using a Risk Likelihood Matrix and come out with mitigation plans for high-risk factors. Finally, participants will also be taught how to apply the Project Management Trade-Off Matrix in decision-making.
