It is a 5-day instructor-led training program that develops practical skills in data preparation, DAX calculations, data modeling, Power BI reporting, dashboard design, and data storytelling. Participants complete assessments and may receive the Professional Certificate upon successful completion.

The fundamentals module is designed for beginners and participants with limited programming or data warehousing knowledge. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and awareness of business concepts such as revenue and profitability are recommended.


However, the DAX, data modeling, and dashboard modules have their own prerequisites. Participants should ideally have basic Power BI or Power Pivot knowledge before attending the more advanced modules.

You will learn how to:

  • Connect and transform data using Power Query.

  • Create reports and dashboards.

  • Write DAX formulas and measures.

  • Apply evaluation contexts and CALCULATE.

  • Build data models using star schemas.

  • Manage relationships, granularity and date dimensions.

  • Design dashboards using data storytelling principles.

DAX, or Data Analysis Expressions, is the expression language used for calculations in Power BI. It enables users to create calculated columns, measures and analytical calculations involving filters, relationships, time intelligence and evaluation contexts.

Basic technical familiarity with Microsoft Excel is recommended for the fundamentals module. The course also introduces Excel as a data source, making Excel knowledge useful when learning how to connect and prepare data in Power BI.

Yes. The final module covers dashboard strategy, visualization, and data storytelling, including the 7 Golden Rules of Dashboard Design. Participants also complete dashboard projects and an oral presentation to explain their design decisions and insights.

Yes. This Professional Certificate in Data Analytics with Microsoft Power BI course is HRDC Claimable, subject to the applicable HRD Corp requirements and employer eligibility.

    Microsoft awards the certification upon successful completion of the required examination. Passing the training program alone does not automatically grant the Microsoft certification.
