The Data Ethics for Business Professionals (DEBIZ) course is a 1-day foundational training designed to help business leaders and professionals navigate the complex ethical challenges presented by AI, machine learning, and data-driven technologies. As algorithms increasingly influence decisions, the need for ethical foresight in technology adoption has never been greater.
This course introduces the fundamental principles of data ethics, explores how they differ from human judgment, and shows how to embed fairness, transparency, privacy, and accountability into emerging technologies. Through interactive activities and real-world case studies—such as the Allegheny Family Screening Tool and PredPol—participants will examine issues of bias, surveillance, and algorithmic harm.
Learners will apply ethical frameworks, analyze data risks, and gain the tools to build a culture of responsible innovation within their organizations. Topics include transparency in AI models (the “black box” problem), data legislation, ethical decision-making, and stakeholder alignment.
This course is ideal for C-level leaders, project managers, HR and marketing teams, and anyone influencing or implementing data-driven solutions. It also prepares learners for the CertNexus DEBIZ (Exam DEB-110) credential and supports SHRM-CP® or SHRM-SCP® recertification.
